Confidentiality: locks, sightlines and sound

Three concrete controls apply. First, locks: every unit holding client files must lock, and open shelving should carry only statutes and books. Second, sightlines: the screen behind the desk should not be visible from the corridor when the door opens, which placing the desk perpendicular to the door resolves in one move.

Third, sound. In offices divided by plasterboard, conversation carries into the adjacent volume, which is incompatible with the requirements of legal practice. The available measure on the furniture side is to move the meeting corner away from the shared wall and interrupt the line with a bookcase or an acoustic panel.
